Winding along the rugged coastline, the Marginal Way offers a peaceful retreat in the heart of Ogunquit, with breathtaking views at every turn.
Ogunquit's Marginal Way stretches 1.25 miles of coastline, treating visitors to breathtaking coastal panoramas. On clear days, the vista extends from Kennebunkport to Nubble Light House, offering a feast for the eyes.
Along the path, numerous benches invite travelers to pause and soak in the scenery. The path itself, mostly flat with occasional gentle hills, is paved for effortless walking and bordered by lush wildflowers, fragrant beach roses, and majestic historic trees.
Commencing at the intersection of Obeds Lane and Shore Road, directly across from Seacastles Resort, the Marginal Way winds its way to Perkins Cove, culminating behind the beloved Oarweed restaurant.
Exploration opportunities abound along the path, with plenty of spots to wander down to the rocky shore and discover tidal pools. Midway through the journey lies Little Beach, appropriately named as it shrinks during high tide. At low tide, it's an ideal spot for children to hunt for crabs and shells, though there are no lifeguards or facilities available.
For a complete experience, consider walking the Marginal Way in both directions to appreciate its varied vistas. In the summer, the sight of colorful umbrellas and beach chairs dotting the shoreline of Ogunquit beach adds to the allure.
At the end of Marginal Way you'll find Perkins Cove which boasts charming restaurants and shops. Consider grabbing an ice cream at Barnacle Billy's or a lobster roll at Footbridge Lobster and watching sailboats navigate through the drawbridge. If you're lucky, you might even get to operate the drawbridge.
Parking options include the town-owned Obed's lot near the Marginal Way entrance and a small town-owned lot at Perkins Cove, along with a private parking lot just outside the cove.
